Neise MacIntyre

I live in a small town in Pennsylvania called Hilltown, with my husband. We have recently renovated my workspace, which I’ve named Clearview Studio, because it overlooks our beautiful property. I’m a graduate of the Moore College of Art and Design, and have been a member of the Pastel Society of America for 7 years.

I have worked in the field of art for more than 40 years, first as a graphic artist, and now painting and teaching art full time, hosting public and private sessions in my studio.

I paint because I’m inspired by the beautiful world that God has created for us. My goal as an artist is not to necessarily replicate nature in a photo-realistic fashion; it’s more about conveying the feeling and sense of excitement that I get after soaking in the colors and textures of the environment around us. I enjoy both in-studio work, as well as plein air painting when I have the opportunity.

While I paint in a variety of media, my true passion is working with pastels. For me, pastel is about mark-making – strokes of color that vibrate with pure pigment. I love the texture that pastels can impart to a piece, and I find it to be the best combination of drawing and painting.

I am primarily a landscape artist, and living in Pennsylvania, there’s never a shortage of beautiful locations from which to draw inspiration. I never tire of seeing the rolling farmlands dotted with small towns, and the shifting color palate that comes with the changing of the seasons.

Having grown up in California, I find the western landscapes to be full of beauty as well, and I always travel with my sketch book and camera at-hand, ready to capture those fleeting visual moments that inspire me to create. I tend to gravitate toward landscapes with strong sunlight and shadow patterns, but on occasion I find that even a gray day can be fulfilling.
